California Drought: Residents cut water use 24.3 percent in March

San Jose on Tuesday was at 102 percent, San Francisco 101, Oakland 84, Stockton 124, Sacramento 91 and Redding 118. In March, the Bay Area reduced water use 25 percent compared to March 2013, and the South Coast region -- mostly Los Angeles and San Diego -- cut by 20.7 percent, while Sacramento region cut by 36.7 percent.Because of the winter rains, which gave Northern California its wettest winter in five years, the state water board is scheduled to vote May 18 on changes to the rules.

Money California Dreamin': Florida Gov. Scott heading to San Jose seeking jobs

Rick Scott is heading west for a three-day California jobs jaunt that is drawing fire from Democrats. Scott will also participate in a panel discussion being hosted by the Milken Institute. This is the latest visit by the Republican governor to states run by Democrats. In those visits Scott criticized the business climate of the other states. Ahead of this trip the state's economic development agency paid for radio ads criticizing California's decision to gradually lift the minimum wage to $15.

Sports Dixie Chicks adding 9 more dates to US tour

Money Oldest Japanese-American newspaper faces possible closure

LOS ANGELES -- The oldest Japanese-American newspaper could close in December unless it doubles its subscribers or raise about $500,000 in revenue. The newspaper that has chronicled the story of the Japanese American community in Southern California has a print circulation of about 7,800, down from a peak of 23,000 subscribers in the late 1980s. It started in 1903, survived World War II when writers and editors were shipped off to internment camps and resumed publishing in Los Angeles in 1946.

California man accused of leaving baby in car with engine on for 1 hour

LOS ANGELES -- Police say a father left his 8-month-old daughter in an unlocked car with the engine running for about an hour while he went inside a Los Angeles gym. KABC-TV reports Allen is a personal trainer and was meeting a client at the gym. Police said 25-year-old Solomon Allen was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment Friday after a passerby found the infant in the parked car in the garage below a 24-Hour Fitness gym in North Hollywood.

The Blazers appeared to pull away when McCollum's 3-pointer made it 98-91 with 4:49 left, but the Clippers persisted. Portland will open the second round against the reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors on Sunday. Lakers hire Luke Walton as next head coach

The Los Angeles Lakers announced late Friday night that they had reached a multi-year agreement with Luke Walton to become their next head coach.Walton, an assistant for the Golden State Warriors who also played for the Lakers, led the Warriors to a 39-4 record to begin the season."We're excited to bring Luke back to Los Angeles, where we feel he's going to start an outstanding coaching career," Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak said in a release.
