Denver City Attorney Scott Martinez confirmed Tuesday that he will leave the post in Mayor Michael Hancock's administration at the end of the month.Martinez, who was elevated from deputy city attorney in December 2013, said that after more than four years in the city's legal office, he's ready for a change. The interim city attorney after Martinez's May 31 departure will be current deputy Cristal DeHerrera, though she is expected to be on maternity leave through July.

Woman hit by RTD bus in Denver rushed to hospital

The woman was taken by ambulance to a hospital, said Nate Curry, an RTD spokesman. A woman was hit by an RTD bus Tuesday afternoon in Denver at the busy intersection of Broadway and Colfax Avenue. on the southeast corner of the intersection, said Raquel Lopez, a Denver Police Department spokeswoman. The woman wound up under the front of the bus, which was making a turn from Broadway onto eastbound Colfax.Police had a lane of the intersection blocked off as the accident was investigated.

Man sentenced to 42 years in Denver cold case murder

A man convicted of killing a 23-year-old in 1996 was sentenced on Monday to 42 years in prison. Sheldon Long, 43, pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count of second-degree murder, a Class 2 felony, according to a news release from the Denver District Attorney's office. Witnesses were interviewed again, which resulted in the identification of Long and his co-defendant, Antonio Domena.
